Prizegiving 2013

It was the year 8’s last prize giving and I was hoping I receive a award. Waiting anxiously After watching the year 6’s prize giving item dance, it was time for the Intermediate awards. First was the class awards, but I didn't win anything.

After a while, it was time for the sports awards! I felt really excited for who was going to win. “And the winner is…..Samuela!” Mr Burt called out. Everyone clapped and cheered as he won the Player of the year award for Rugby Union. He is a really talented guy that is really good a rugby. He also played in a Auckland rep team called Roller mills.

The next subject of sport was Rugby league and that was my favourite sport. My friend Kingston P won team spirit because he had good sportsmanship. Then Mr Burt called out Player of the  year and my name was called out. I was very happy of my achievements that night because I won sportsman of the year!

Sooner later, we had finished our year 8 Item dance and Mr Burts finished the night off with a prayer and everyone took photos and went home.

I Heard A Voice

Walking through the majestic dark forest, Chris and his sister Tarsha were on a hunt trying to find food for their family. “Did you hear that?” Tarhsa whispered. While silently stepping on all the bark and dirt, they spotted a deer all on its own in the forest. Chris and Tarsha creeped upon the animal. Hiding behind the green lush bushes, Chris pulled out his bow and arrow, held his breath and was ready to slay the deer.

Focusing on the attack, Chris was seconds away from launching his arrow. “Come with me…”  Someone whispered. Chris lost focus and missed his target. The deer used his long legs and ran as fast as it could to try escape.
“What was that!?” Tarsha yelled.
“I don’t know, but lets follow it” Chris felt confident.
Jumping over tree stumps and a few rocks, Chris and Tarsha sprinted their way through the forest trying to find the one who whispered. “I heard a whisper but no-one was there” Tarsha was confused.

Chris and Tarsha were curious of the whisper. Sitting down,  Chris was thinking of who or what whispered. “Come with me….Come with me”  They quickly stood up and started running towards the whisper and it lead them to an old house in the forest. “I wonder who lives here?” Tarsha questioned. They headed into the house wondering why the whisper would bring them here.

“Hello” Chris yelled out. They creeped up stairs and saw colourful smoke coming from one of the rooms. “Muahaha” An unusual voice laughed. Lurking through the shadows, they saw a woman with a pointy hat on stirring something in a pot. “ITS A WITCH!” They both screamed as they were trying to escape the house, the Witch grabbed her broom and chased them around the house, “Get back here! I’m going to cook you in my pot” The Witch demanded “NEVER!” Chris and Tarsha Keeped running. But they never escaped that house.

The Bushwalk

“ Hurry up lets GO!” Chris’s Mum shouted as him and his family were going down to the forest for a bush walk. They were going to the majestic rainforest of Queensland. The whole family wanted to get there before it started pouring down with rain. One of Chris’s brothers Jarryd, was still playing game and needed to hurry up!

Arriving at the rainforest, the sun was still shining on their faces, hoping that it would never go away. Almost quarter of the way, Chris’s sister Tarsha yelled out “ Look a baby Kangaroo!” The little joey hopped away scared to it’s mother. Everyone started getting sore legs and wanted a rest. As Chris’s family sat down, he wanted to keep going, so he did.

As Chris was walking he felt little drops of water falling straight on his face, he knew it would start raining so he went back to his family. Looking around the area they were at, they already left. After a while rain starting crashing down to the ground, Chris was running for his life looking for his family but it was too hard to see in a terrible weather. His family was at shelter waiting for the rain to stop. Chris’s Mum started getting worried and wanted to go look for him. HE WAS LOST!

Eastern Zone BasketBall

“Shoot!” Mr Barks shouted at me as I took my shot at the hoop. The School basketball team was practising for our Eastern Zone tournament at the ASB Stadium. Everyone got changed and we were sharp and ready to play some basketball.

Arriving at the ASB Stadium, our team went and sat in our seats. Looking down at the courts, I saw some good competitors and thought there were going to be some hard games. We headed to the courts to start practising our shooting and blocking.

‘Errrrrr’The siren went for the game to start. It was Pt England vs St Thomas. They had some tall players  and we did too. Raenan started dribbling the ball towards the hoop, “Yoo, yoo, yoo!” I called for the ball, he passed it and  I shot a goal. We started off with a good start and we need to keep it up.

9/11 D.L.O Reflection

911 James Crusader Starford from Team 5 PES on Vimeo.

In the past few weeks, My group and I (James and Crusader) have been working on a D.L.O (Digital Learning Object) about an event in history. We choose to do  the 9/11 attack that occurred in  New York City, September 9th, 2001. The reason why we choose that event in history is because we thought it was going to be interesting and  I don’t really know what happened in the Terrorist attack.

The positive thing was that we finished our D.L.O, our animations and our movies. I thought we did good was that we tried to show many different perspectives about Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. The Interviews were detailed. I also thought it had a bit humor added into it.

There was a few things we could've worked on to make it more effective. We  didn’t show how it affected the actual people in New York. The Information that we found out could've been shown with more detail. I reckon we could've made the animations more detailed as well because we had a lot of time.

I thought that the interview with Osama Bin Laden was really interesting and so did people that watched it. Another thing that also interested the audience and I, was how two people played the part of two or three characters.

Cross Country!!

“Are you ready for Cross Country?” My friend Samuela asked me, “Ohhh no!!” I said with anxiousness. Today was the day of our school’s Cross Country. I was really nervous. I haven’t  been running lately and I thought I was gonna be unfit.

Getting ready, everyone starting dressing up in their house colours. I’m in Mataatua which is the green house. There are four house colours, Takitimu(Yellow), Te Arawa(Red), Tainui(Blue) and Mataatua(green) My group and I from Mataatua came together and had to create a chant . It took awhile to finish but we managed to pull it off.

It was time, the whole school gathered together in their house colours. Everyone was excited and so was I. Mrs Va'afusuaga (School sports co-ordinator) said it was time for the house colour chants, and we were first…

We tried to help motivate our runners to try hard and do their best, and hopefully they do.

In 1 hour, it was time for the yr 8’s to run. Everyone was really excited and some were really anxious. Our Principal Mr Burt said the call “On your marks...get set...GO!!” And we were off like lightning. I paced myself so i didn’t puff out while running. After a while I finally reached the finish line and I came 10th.

Should Homework be compulsory in school?

Do you think Homework should be compulsory in school? Well, if you think it should,  I think it shouldn’t be. Kids work five days a week at school and should be able to have a rest at home.

I definitely believe that homework should not be compulsory. When students already study a lots of  topics at school, why bother doing at home as well? People might have something on their schedule or a bit of spare time, to relax and enjoy his hobbies.
This is what I think of homework in schools, what do you think? Comment your answer.

Little Blue Swagging Hood!

“Hey yo Durant go get me something to eat” said our gang leader LeBron. I got straight up out of my seat and rushed outside of the Wolf Gang crib. “I got no money on me man” I thought to myself. What was I going to do? As I was walking down the streets of San Andreas, something caught my eye. It was a little girl with a picnic basket. It seemed as if she was on a picnic.

I knew I had to take that from her. What else was I going to do because I would be dead meat if I didn't get food for LeBron.  I approached her and I talked to her. “Hello girl, what is your name” I said politely “My name is Little Blue Swagging Hood”. “That basket of yours looks pretty good, what’s in it?” As she was explaining to me what it was, I snatched the basket off her and ran away. I was off. “Give it back!” She yelled as she was chasing me.

I eventually lost her and I needed to find somewhere to hide. I arrived at a rich house and I heard someone in there. “I wonder if anyones home?” I thought to myself. I looked in the window to check if anyone was there. I sneaked inside her house as quiet as a ninja. Walking through all the rooms, I saw an old lady resting in her bed. I found a roll of duct tape sitting on the bench and grabbed it. I sneaked around her couch, and taped her mouth. “Yes” I said as I found some rope. I tied her hands and threw her in the cupboard.

Looking through her clothes , I spotted some of her pj’s. I quickly slipped them on and jumped in her bed. A few minutes later, Little Blue Swagging Hood knocked on the door. “Are you home grandma?” She cried. I was speechless. She went through the house looking for her grandma.

“Is that you grandma?” Little Blue Swagging Hood said.
“Yes darling, why you crying?” I said.
“This guy came and took my basket of food...Wait, why you so brown grandma?”
“Ummm, I was in the sun for too long”
“Ohhh, Ok, why you so tall?”
“I’ve been sleeping alot”
“Why have you got such big muscles grandma?”
“I’ve been going to the gym lately”
“’re not my grandma!” said Little Blue. “What’s that shaking in the closet?” Little Blue walked over suspiciously towards the closet. At that moment, Durant jumped out of the bed and pulled out a gun. But just as quickly, the closet flew open and grandma jumped out with an even bigger gun.

My Journey...

“Finally, my time has come for me to prove myself” I thought positively. “I can get into this professional prestigious karate school” I said to myself. I prayed for God to give me strength for the task ahead of me. Leaping from rock to rock, with a  tenuous grip, I eventually reached the tip of the mountain. Dangling dangerously at the top of the cliff, my exhausted body managed to heave myself onto the flat rocky ledge.

Looking straight ahead, I could see a path heading to the karate school. Each step I took   towards the palace, I got more and more excited. Looking up, I saw a huge door before me. ’Knock, knock, knock..’ The master sensei opened the door. I bowed before him, but he pointed away. I sighed as I walked away sadly.

My Sister's Big Wedding!

“I’m so proud of you” my mum said to my eldest sister Denisha, the day before her wedding. I couldn’t stop thinking about how old she’s gotten since she was a kid. Everyone was really excited for her big day, and so was I! My sister was really happy and anxious for her big day.

The person that was getting married to my sister was this Tongan guy called Nela (Daniel Havili). He’s been together with my sister for three years and they decided that they wanted to be together forever. He’s funny, cool, tall, good looking and a fob.

Waking up, I quickly jumped out of bed. It was the day of the wedding. All the boys dressed up into their suits that they were wearing to the wedding, I was really excited because it was the first time I had ever worn a suit. After my hair was done, we were just on time for the limo to come pick us up.

Sitting in the limo, we waited to get to the place we were going which was Waipuna.  Arriving there, we hopped out and went to the reception. My brother(Lepa) and I walked my sister down the aisle, hugged her, then handed her to her dad. He walked her to the front, where they were getting married. As my sister Denesha and Daniel were doing their thing, they both said ‘I do’ and everyone started clapping. They walked out happily together.

After celebrating their wedding, the boys did a fijian dance and it was really cool!  everyone had a big feed and a good time.

State Of Origin!

Finally, the time has come for the Nrl teams NSW (New South Wales) and QLD (Queensland) to come together to battle for the State Of Origin shield! The last seven years that Origins been played, Queensland has won all of them.

State of Origin is a best of three series of National Rugby League matches between the Nsw Blues and the Qld Maroons, who represents parts of Australia. Some reason’s why I like State Of Origin is because all the lethal fights and big hits!

My team is Queensland! They’ve won the last 7 Origin’s and hopefully this year they can make it 8.  I like Qld because they have some of my favorite players like Greg Inglis, Billy Slater, Darius Boyd and Johnathan Thurston. My best player from back in the days were Mal meninga and Darren Lockyer.

My prediction for the first person to score in Qld is Darius Boyd, he plays fullback for the Newcastle Knights. If you're wondering why i choose him, it's because he’s a good high flyer, he’s fast and he’s a good runner.

Energy Drinks Report

Energy drinks are really popular nowadays, more than 1,000 energy drinks are been sold each day. Energy drinks are beverages like Red Bull, RockStar and Monster. There used for different reasons like recovery or a energy boost before sports.
I like energy drinks because they are nice and it gives me energy. They not just increase your level of enthusiasm but they also puts your confidence up. The reason why drinks like Powerade, Loaded and gatorade provide us with energy is because it has lots of sugar and caffeine. Carbohydrates are need for our body, and  energy drinks have that.

One reason why I worry about drinking too much energy drinks is because of the drugs in it, It’s also addicted.  I found out that a 18 yr old Irish athlete teen died after drinking a few Red Bull cans.

Caffeine is the most common ingredient that is used in a energy drink. It’s also the chemical that provides the energy boost.

America is one of the most biggest countries in  the world. They have a population of 313.9 million people,  less than a quarter of them are obese (one third). Obese citizens  are really overweight because they have a sedentary lifestyle and a bad diet.  They also  have an  eating disorder.

Obese people get huge and overweight because they eat way  too much food like burgers, fish and chips, pizza and many more  that are more than. Some people  lose their limbs because of their obesity.  Obese people have lack of exercise, they have short breath and knee pain.

The cause of a  obese citizens is junk food and not exercising enough. There are too many people eating more than their stomach can hold.  The one restaurant  every obese would like to goto is heart attack grill, they have  burgers 3x bigger than Carl’s Jr burgers.

Over  500  obese  people die every year from eating too much junk food and drinking fizzy drinks that are very high in sugar. People are dying younger from obesity. obesity causes major health problems like  heart attacks, heart disease and diabetes. Some Obesity’s weight  around  765 pounds / over 50 stones.  The caskets  have to be larger for obesity people to fit inside it.

Eggs Report

New zealanders eat 2 and a half million eggs a day and 920,000,000 are eaten per year. Most of the eggs that are composed are caged hens.

There are 4 ways that eggs are produced, barn eggs, caged eggs, free range eggs and organic eggs. The 3 different styles people eat eggs are poached, fried and scrambled. My favorite style is scrambled. The most eggs that are eaten the most are caged eggs.

Eggs are high in protein, they are easy for our bodies to digest. Eggs protein offers vitamins and minerals  Cooked egg protein are better than raw egg . Protein is mostly in the yolk of the egg because it has just about all the nutrients.

Caged hens live in an area with lack space to lay their eggs. Their cages are on an angle for the eggs to roll down and get collected by a conveyor belt. There are 6 hens per cage, unfortunately hens can’t exercise.

Free range and organic hens are not like caged hens, they eat grass and chicken feeds, have more space to  run around and can flap their wings.

Iron Man 3!!

“Let’s go! Its starting soon!” I shouted at my brother. My family was rushing to the movies because we were excited. Going up the escalators, I could see many people going to watch a movie. After getting our tickets, we waited for our movie to start, so we played some games in the arcade. A few minutes later we walked in to our cinema. The movie we watched was called ‘Iron Man 3!’

Eating my popcorn, I was getting more and more excited because it was my first time going to the movies this year and my friends and cousins were saying it was an awesome movie! “Its starting!” my Mum whispered to me. I was eager to lock my eyes on the movie screen.

My favorite part of the movie was when Iron Man and The Patriot (Iron man’s friend) sneaked on  killian’s Ship (Evil leader) and tried to save Iron Man’s girlfriend Pepper.  As they were making their way to  Pepper, one of Killian’s  servants spotted them and started shooting. Iron Man had no help, so he called his other suits that were controlled by a computer. All the suits starting attacking Killian and his servants.

I hope that there’s a Iron Man 4 because I really like Superhero movies like these.

The Best Day Ever!

Walking into assembly, I realised that there was thousands of big camera’s and paparazzi  from Hallensteins, one news, Erin simpson show and many more! Looking around, I spotted this guy who was dressed all in black. I was wondering who it was that was walking in and it was WILL.I.AM!!!!

I was shocked and  full of excitement as he went up to the front of the hall. I waved at him and he waved back, I felt very happy as he walked past me because I couldn’t believe that a famous celebrity like him would come to our school Pt England.

The reason why he came to our school was because we do good work online and we blog. He was talking about how he was young. He lived in a poor neighborhood with a single mother and didn’t know his father, and when he grew up he became a superstar. He wants to inspire us to be whatever we want in life so he donated our school $100.000.

If you don’t know him, he is a singer/rapper in the Black Eyed Pea’s with Fergie, Taboo and Apl.De.Ap. They are a Worldwide Alternative Hip Hop group that went viral in 2009. The first song they created was ‘Phunk with my heart’ that sold 100’s of copies.  My favorite song from  is ‘That Power’ I really like that song.

Finally! Its Easter, Running down stairs, I looked in the freezer and got my easter eggs. I munched them back like there was no tomorrow. I did many things on easter like have a B.B.Q, watch movies and play games like the Easter egg hunt.

Today the whole family came together to remember why God’s son Jesus sacrificed his life on the cross for us. He died to forgive all our sins, and everyone is grateful for that.

Do you know why Easter is on Sunday? well, its because Jesus died on a Friday (good Friday) and he came back to life on a Sunday and everyone celebrates that day. And If you are wondering why Easter bunnies are used on Easter, they are a sign of rebirth.

I can’t wait till Easter next year, so I can eat some more chocolate!

Picnic gone WRONG!

"Hurry up and get your hat, your gonna burn out there!" Sader Shouted at Chris from a distance. Chris quickly ran into class like flash to grab his hat. The whole school was going down to the Beach for a annual School picnic. The Beach they went to was Blues Beach. They've been at that school for a few years and this is their last year, which means it was their last picnic at Asap's Intermediate. "I can't wait!" Chris said with excitement!

Arriving at the beach, Chris and Sader saw everyone enjoying their time, and hearing laughter all around them. As they sat down with their class, their teacher Mr Faletagoai asked them nicely to put all their gear down and do whatever they want. Chris went off to play cricket with his other friends. "ahhhhhhhh" Sader sighed as he relaxed under the tree in peace, closing his eyes slowly he soon fell asleep.

After Sader finished his sleep, he quickly stood up and walked over to where his friends were playing cricket. "Can I play" Sader asked politely, "sure" his mate replied in a good tone. As they were playing, It was Sader's turn to bat. Chris was fielding, and the bowler started his run up, he bowled the ball at his best trying to get Sader out.

‘WHACK!’ Sader smashed the ball so hard the ball went flying out to the dark blue sea. “Nice one”  Taylor said as he was amazed with Sader’s skills. Chris was sprinting like flash to get that ball as it was floating in the sea. He dived in going to grab the ball, as he was swimming he spotted a big sharp fin in the water...”SHARK!”  Chris screamed his head off!

Swimming for his life, Chris started thinking to himself ‘am I gonna die today?’  that’s all he was thinking about. He was the faster swimmer in his school and he was pretty good, but the shark was faster. The shark was gaining on him quickly as Chris was losing his stamina. Snap! The Shark took a big bite but missed. Getting closer and closer to the bank Chris shouted “HELP, HELP, HELP!” Everyone heard him and went to help him. Running towards the sea they spotted some rocks and threw them at the shark and it began to swim back into the reef.

Chris eventually  got to shore and was not injured or harmed,

The One And Only...BLUES!!

"I cant believe we're going to meet them!" I said excitedly to my friend Samuela, "Yeah!" He replied. Driving down to Dunkirk reserve, I looked at everyones face and they all had big cheesy smiles.

"We're here" Mrs V reminded us. Getting off the bus, I looked around if they were here, but I couldn't see them. "Where are they?" I asked my teacher, " Their comming soon" She replied. Walking onto the field, we took our gear and put it under the tree. Sooner later we saw a blue bus with tinted windows park near the fields. It looked unusual. Opening the doors I saw these big guys walking towards us...

"ITS THE BLUES!!!" I shouted out, Everyone stood up to have a look. "There here!" Everybody screamed. They introduced them to the whole group. I wanted to see George Muala because He's really good! We started doing training drills with them, and they were teaching us some of their plays. It was pretty hard.

Puffing and puffing, I put my hands on my head laying down. It was our lunch time and I had a little rest. After a while I got up and had a stretch. It was our last lesson and we were doing tackling drills. I was keen to start playing.

Life Of Chang

Step by step, His feet were plunging in the soft sand. walking through the beach, his eyes lids were shutting quickly. Everything was going dark. As He approached the sea, His toes were touching the white foam. Legs shaking, His body was about to collapse in the clear blue sea.

Looking for help, he spotted a crowd in the distance. Seeing all the family's have fun in the sand, his memories of his childhood started flooding back into his head. He remembered his name, which was Chang.

The Day Everyone Disappered

“Let’s go!” Sader Shouted, “we’re gonna be late for school!” Chris finished polishing his teeth and was ready to go. “Bye Mum” They both called out to their mum, She gave them a big kiss on the cheek and watched them as they crossed the road. ”Be careful of the cars” Mum said sounding worried.

Arriving at school late,Chris ran to class and Sader walked into his class quietly and fast like a ninja. “Why are you late?” Mr Falatagoal asked, “Sorry, I slept in Mr” replied Sader. Grabbing his book out, He had a lot of work to do...

After  school was finished, Sader meet up with Chris and walked home very slowly.Sader was so tired, when he went home he fell onto his bed like he was going to die. Closing his eyes fast, he eventually crashed and went to sleep like he got knocked out.

Waking up from his sleep, Sader walked into the kitchen with his eyes half open to get something to munch on. “Mum, did you go shopping?” No one answered. All of a sudden everything went silent. Sader checked every bedroom to see who was in the house but there was no one.  He started getting scared. “Hello, Is anyone out there,?” As he ran outside and shouted. Tears started running down his eyes, “Where are you mum?” He started praying to God to bring his family back  and everyone else that went missing.

Going around the street he checked if there was anyone around him. Then all of a sudden ‘PUFF’ He woke up and it was all just a crazy dream...

Lets Go Asap's

Walking into class after morning tea, Mrs Lagitupu (My teacher) lined everyone up outside, “What are we doing” I asked, one of my friends told me we were going for a touch rugby sesson for p.e.

As we were walking towards the fields I could see this guy standing with the equipments. I was wondering  and thought he wasn’t our tutor till I saw him with Mrs Va’afusuanga setting up the fields. His name was Kevin. He didnt look like a sporty guy but I knew he knew touch rules and skills more than me.

Arriving at the Rugby fields in the burning sun, I could see that our tutor was already settiog up the field“ASAP, get on the field now you're playing the red team” our tutar shouted. My team and I stood up and marched to the playing field with excitement. We were the ASAP’s. I was really keen to start practising and learn a bit more of the game touch rugby.

After all the touch games were finished, Kevin announced that there was going to be a all on all game. There was people running all over the field, and it was chaos!...

Fia Fia Assembly

“Wow, look at Levi, He’s on fire!” I said to my friend Darius. Everyone in Fiafia Assembly was amazed with his drumming skills! Everyone was really excited about watching him. There was going to other performances like  Singing, dancing and other cool stuff. I wanted to watch all of them because they sounded awesome!

After the Drumming was over, I saw a few people walking onto the stage carrying a chinese dragon, I was a bit confused in the start but then I remembered it’s a cultural performance. I really enjoyed it because I thought it was pretty fascinating and it was the first time i’ve seen that before. As I watching them walk onto and around the stage I saw my friend Crusader as part of it and he was the dragon head.

My favourite part of the performance was when Uili, Hossanah and henry sang a song. I really enjoyed it because they had  really good voices that amazed the whole school. The song they sang was “Believe”

After all of those talented performances were finished, I felt like watching it again!
